SoFi Stadium was designed to go down instead of up. Because the stadium sits close to Los Angeles International Airport, strict height limits affected how tall the structure could be. To create a 70,000-seat stadium without exceeding those limits, designers excavated deep into the site and placed the playing field roughly 100 ft (30 m) below the surrounding ground level.
