Hofstra University once boasted a strong football program that, despite being discontinued, left behind a meaningful legacy. Based in Hempstead, New York, the Hofstra Pride competed at the NCAA Division I-AA (now FCS) level and produced several standout athletes who found success in the NFL. The team was especially known for its dynamic offensive style and notable alumni, including Wayne Chrebet and Marques Colston.

Among those stars, Marques Colston stands out as a symbol of overlooked talent reaching greatness. A tall, skilled wide receiver, Colston made his mark at Hofstra in the early 2000s with sharp route running and reliable hands. Although he wasn’t heavily recruited out of high school, Colston took full advantage of his time at Hofstra to sharpen his abilities and prove he belonged on a bigger stage.

In the 2006 NFL Draft, Colston was taken in the seventh round by the New Orleans Saints. He quickly surpassed expectations, emerging as one of quarterback Drew Brees' go-to targets and a vital part of the Saints’ potent offense. Colston went on to log over 700 catches and more than 9,000 receiving yards, playing a key role in the team’s Super Bowl XLIV victory.
