Elvis Presley’s private jet was sold for $260,000 after being parked in the desert for nearly 40 years. The aircraft, a 1962 Lockheed 1329 JetStar, had been sitting at the Roswell International Air Center in New Mexico since the early 1980s. Elvis purchased the jet in December 1976 for $840,000—equivalent to about $4.4 million today—less than a year before his death.

The jet was auctioned on January 8, 2023, at the Mecum Kissimmee Collector Car Auction in Florida, coinciding with what would have been Elvis’s 88th birthday. Priscilla Presley, Elvis’s former wife, attended the event and shared her memories of his passion for planes.

Despite its age and the removal of its engines and cockpit instruments, the plane still featured its original red velvet upholstery, gold hardware, and shag carpet. These preserved interior elements contributed to its appeal as a collectible and restoration project.
